Empowering Peacebuilders
OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME GRANTS
As of 2025, the Alliance of Concerned Men continues to leverage funding from the Office of Out-of-School Time (OST) Summer Strong grants to deliver innovative youth development programs in Washington, D.C. These initiatives focus on empowering at-risk youth to become proactive peacebuilders and community leaders.
The current programming aims to equip youth with the necessary skills and confidence to foster peaceful communities, thereby reducing violence and encouraging positive lifestyle choices.
In 2025, ACM has expanded its reach to serve over 100 youth, aged 5 to 24, across Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8. Our services include conflict resolution training, mentorship, community engagement activities, and mental health support.
This year, ACM hosted a 6-week Conflict Resolution Youth Training summer program with over 60 youth from Kimball Elementary School, Sousa Middle School in Greenway (Ward 7), and Turner Elementary in Ward 8. Designed to instill peacebuilding skills, the program covers topics such as:
- Self-Reflection: Managing triggers and self-soothing techniques
- Empathy Development: Enhancing perspective and understanding
- Conflict Transformation: Breaking the cycle of violence through effective communication
- Restorative Practices: Fostering compassion and creating peace circles
