Alliance of Concerned Men (“ACM,” “the Alliance,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information in connection with allianceofconcernedmen.org (the “Site”) and related communications, such as our email newsletter and online donation and volunteer forms (collectively, our “Services”).
This Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
A note on our program services: This Privacy Policy covers information collected through the Site. Information ACM collects offline in connection with intake, case management, mentoring, or credible-messenger services for program participants is subject to separate, more specific confidentiality practices and any applicable program, funder, or government agreements, and is not fully described in this Site-focused Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide to Us
We may collect information you voluntarily provide when you use the Site, including when you:
- Fill out a contact, volunteer, or program-inquiry form (e.g., name, email address, phone number, mailing address, and any message you include);
- Subscribe to our email newsletter or mailing list;
- Make a donation (e.g., name, contact information, and payment details processed by our third-party payment processor);
- Apply to volunteer or partner with ACM; or
- Otherwise correspond with us, such as by email or through social media.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, and approximate location, and may use cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies to do so. See Section 4 (Cookies and Tracking Technologies) below.
Information From Other Sources
We may receive information about you from third parties, such as payment processors, email service providers, event or grant partners, or publicly available sources (for example, news coverage of our programs).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
- Respond to inquiries and provide information about our programs;
- Process and acknowledge donations, and maintain donor records;
- Evaluate and manage volunteer, partnership, and program interest submissions;
- Send newsletters, updates, impact reports, and fundraising communications (where you have opted in or as otherwise permitted by law);
- Analyze Site usage and improve content, accessibility, and user experience;
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, security, or technical issues; and
- Comply with legal obligations, grant reporting requirements, and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: With vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, email/newsletter delivery, payment processing, and analytics providers, who are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide those services;
- Funders and Government Partners: In aggregate or de-identified form, or as required for grant, contract, or program-reporting obligations to funders and government agencies that support ACM’s work;
- Legal Compliance: When we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ACM, our community, or others;
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, reorganization, or transfer of ACM’s assets or operations to another mission-aligned organization; and
- With Your Consent: For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection or with your consent.
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Site may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to recognize your browser, remember preferences, and understand how visitors use the Site (for example, through analytics tools). You can typically set your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent; however, some parts of the Site may not function properly without them. The Site does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
5. Artificial Intelligence
We may utilize artificial intelligence (“AI”) technologies to assist with content creation, customer communications, accessibility improvements, analytics, translation, personalization, search optimization, workflow automation, and other business operations. Where AI is used in connection with our services, it is intended to assist our team and improve the user experience. Personal information processed through AI-assisted technologies is handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
ACM does not use AI or other automated tools to make decisions about program eligibility, admission, safety, or similar consequential determinations about an individual without meaningful human review. AI-assisted features on the Site are intended to support ACM staff, not to replace human judgment in matters affecting program participants or the communities we serve.
6. Donations and Payment Information
Donations made through the Site are processed by a third-party payment processor. ACM does not directly collect or store your full payment card or bank account number; that information is handled by our payment processor in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable payment-card-industry (PCI) security standards. We retain records of donation amounts, dates, and donor contact information for acknowledgment, tax-receipt, and reporting purposes, consistent with the retention practices described in Section 14.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site in the manner regulated by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 through the Site, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to us through the Site may contact us using the information in Section 17.
As noted above, information about individuals under 18 who participate in ACM’s mentoring, credible-messenger, or violence-intervention programs is collected and handled offline, through ACM staff, under separate and more protective program confidentiality practices—not through this Site.
8. Sensitive Personal Information
In limited circumstances, information submitted through the Site—for example, in an open-ended message on a contact or program-inquiry form—may reveal sensitive categories of information, such as criminal justice history, reentry status, or mental or behavioral health information. ACM treats this type of information as sensitive: we limit its use to responding to your inquiry, connecting you with the appropriate program staff, and internal recordkeeping, and we do not use it for marketing or share it with third parties except as described in Section 3 (How We Share Information) or with your consent. Please avoid including more sensitive detail than necessary when submitting a form, and know that formal program intake—where more detailed sensitive information is collected—takes place offline under ACM’s program confidentiality practices, not through the Site.
9. Confidentiality of Program-Related Information
ACM serves individuals and families who are often in vulnerable circumstances, including justice-involved individuals and at-risk youth. We understand that disclosure of a person’s connection to ACM’s programs could carry stigma or, in some cases, safety risk. Consistent with this, ACM does not publicly identify program participants or disclose an individual’s participation in ACM’s programs to third parties without appropriate consent, except as required by law, by a funder or government reporting obligation, or to protect health or safety. This commitment applies in addition to—and does not replace—any more specific confidentiality protections in ACM’s program agreements or applicable law.
10. Your Choices and Rights
You have certain choices regarding your information:
- Email Communications: You may opt out of our email newsletter or fundraising emails at any time by using the “unsubscribe” link in those emails or by contacting us directly.
- Access and Correction: You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to legal and recordkeeping requirements (for example, donation records we must retain for tax or audit purposes).
- State Privacy Rights: Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws (such as the right to know, delete, or opt out of certain processing). If applicable, you may exercise these rights by contacting us using the information in Section 17; we will respond consistent with applicable law.
We will make reasonable efforts to honor requests, but some information may need to be retained for legitimate business, legal, or grant-compliance purposes as described in Section 14.
11. Security
We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Data Breach Notification
If ACM experiences a breach of security involving your personal information, we will notify affected individuals and, where required, the DC Office of the Attorney General and other regulators, in the time and manner required by applicable law, including the District of Columbia’s Security Breach Protection Amendment Act, D.C. Code § 28-3851, et seq. Notification will identify, to the extent known, the categories of information involved and steps you can take to protect yourself. Maintaining the security practices described in Sections 11 and 13 of this Policy is part of how we work to prevent breaches from occurring in the first place.
13. Vendor and Service Provider Security
ACM relies on third-party vendors to help operate the Site and support our fundraising and communications—for example, website hosting, email/newsletter delivery, donor management, and payment processing providers. We select vendors that maintain reasonable security practices appropriate to the information they handle, and we limit the personal information we share with vendors to what is reasonably necessary for them to perform their services. However, no vendor, however carefully selected, can guarantee absolute security, and a security incident affecting a vendor’s systems could affect information ACM has shared with that vendor.
14. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and operate our business.
For example, donation and financial records are generally retained for the period recommended for nonprofit financial and tax recordkeeping (commonly several years, consistent with IRS guidance), volunteer and program-inquiry form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond and maintain reasonably useful records, and newsletter subscriber information is retained until you unsubscribe or the information is no longer needed for that purpose. Retention periods may be longer where necessary to comply with a legal, audit, grant, or government-reporting obligation.
15. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site may contain links to third-party websites and services, including social media platforms, our donation-processing platform, and partner or funder websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing information to them. ACM is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice on the Site. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
